How our Animals want to use Flower Essences

As an Animal Communicator, it is my responsibility to listen to the animals and be their voice. When Australian Bush Flower Essences Founder, Ian White, first asked me to write and teach the Animal Wellbeing & Australian Bush Flower Essences Workshop in Australia and overseas, I wondered what topics would be important for this workshop; but I didn’t have to wonder for too long, as it was the animals who chose what was needed! As I began to write the content of the workshop, it became apparent that the animals were very clear about what they wanted the workshop to cover.

It is the same when I am now teaching my own Animal Communication Workshops: I listen to the animals who constantly remind me of what needs to be spoken about. Sometimes I wonder why I’m about to say something, but then there is always confirmation via the response from the participants showing that it needed to be said. The same can be said when I am consulting. I am often guided by the animal to say things, not always knowing why, or concerned that it may be too personal; but each and every time it has been exactly what was needed in the moment. I never cease to be amazed and in awe of the wisdom of the animal kingdom! I see this time and time again when I say what they have guided me to say, only to have their human react the way they do, and confirm that they needed to hear what was said.

And so this wisdom has also become apparent when it comes to how to use any of my blends or flower essences with our animals. Time and time again, in the ‘strongest’ possible tone, I am told by the animals that they do not read books and so don’t care what is written in them! They do not adhere to the rules and regulations of humans when it comes to using flower essences. What they care about is what they need on an individual basis, which is most times very different to what humans think they need. They are not concerned with what other animals or humans may need, but only in what they need and when they need it. When clients refer to the "standard" dose of 5 or 7 drops twice a day, I am quickly (and forcefully) reminded that the blends I make keep evolving and changing to meet the energy that is required at the time and that the "old" dosage no longer applies.  As unique individuals animals will have their "own dosage" and it is up to us to do our best to follow this.  My blends are gentle, yet powerful and 1-2 drops is enough for each dose.  No two days will be the same.  One day may have several doses and the next day none.  It is like peeling away the layers of an onion.  You will notice subtle changes in the behaviour over time and then sometimes the behaviour may appear to have worsened.  This is another layer coming up to heal.  Flower Essences bring each layer up to be worked with and depending on how long the behaviour has been present, this may take time.  You may find that you use a blend for a period of time and then stop for a while.  Then you may see the behaviour again and start the blend again.

When making specific blends of flower essences for animals, I am sometimes asked by the animal to include a particular flower essence that makes no sense to me. If I question the request, I am usually told to ‘stop being human’ and over-analysing and put it in! I always trust this message, and inevitably some time later the reason for the inclusion will become known to me. As humans, we at times think we are superior to our animals; but I am shown on a regular basis that this is not the case. Time and time again, I see an animal come into a family, or ask for a flower essence blend that is needed for themselves; but which in turn is also needed for someone in the family and ultimately brings the healing that is needed.

As you may now be aware, I have made a number of my own flower essence blends. When I decide which flower essences to include, I am guided by my inner knowing; the flowers, trees and plants; and the animals. As a result, many of the blends I have put together contain more than 40 flower essences!  This is way outside the old teachings of  having 4-6 flower essences in a blend.  Whilst my left, logical brain tells me there are too many, I have learnt to listen to and follow the wisdom of my own inner knowing, as well as the wisdom of the plants and animals.  The flowers keep evolving, and so it is important to be open, listen, and feel what is right when working with them. If you are choosing which flower essences to use with your animals (or yourself), then let go of a particular number of essences within a combination being too much. If you get the feeling to add a flower essence, then do so. Trust your inner knowing, and the messages that you receive from the flowers and your animals.

It is the same for using more than one blend of flower essences at once. Through listening to the flowers and the animals, I have seen that is ok to use more than one blend at a time. Information we receive from books, workshops and other places is a great general guide, but the best source of information is the flowers, the animals and our own inner knowing. I know through my own needs and those of my dogs, Daisy and Ralph, that we may on any given day use many different blends. The key here is to be clear in your intent when using the flower essences.  It is important that we take the time to ‘talk’ to the flowers, and convey what we want and need from them when using a blend. When I am making a blend for a client whether animal or human, I am using the information gained from the consult.  None of my blends are pre-made and carry the signature of my knowing as well as the energy and information gained from each participant in the consult.  While my blends may have the "same" list of flower essences, each blend is "unique" as it contains what is specifically required for each client.  Each blend "knows" exactly what it is being asked to do when I making them and when they are being taken.

Which leads me to explain the different ways of using flower essences. The most widely used method is giving the drops orally, but again we need to listen to the individual needs of the animal (or human). I often see in my work animals that are particularly sensitive, and so we need to adjust how my blends are administered. For some, taking drops orally is too much. If this is the case, then the drops can be placed on the fur/skin of the animal; placed in their water or food; placed on a treat; placed on their jacket, rug, harness, or bedding; or in any area that they frequent. Same for humans.  My blends can be taken orally and can also be  added to cups of tea, food or your bath for example.

Each day, on a number of occasions, I spray my working space with a blend that calms and clears the space while I am consulting. Shortly after the spray lands on Daisy and Ralph’s bed, they both roll around in the droplets from the spray. Adding flower essences, or my blends to creams such as Arnica, for example, is another way of using them. You can also add pure essential oils to a cream or spray containing flower essences (of course, ensuring they are safe for use with you or your animal). My Energy Clearing Spray contains flower essences as well as essential oils.  Flower essences are not negated by food or strong flavours, and so can be used alongside or in combination with many other things, including any medication.

Given that flower essences are a vibrational energy, it is not necessary to take the drops orally for them to work. Nor is it necessary to increase the number of drops according to the volume of liquid they are being placed in. Whether you are adding flower essences to a bowl, a bath or a dam it is the same; adding more drops doesn’t make the essences more powerful, as they are a vibrational energy. I hold the bottles of the particular blend and sometimes I carry several blends on me all day in my pockets or bag I also sleep with blends at night. I sometimes use 2.5ml bottles that have a stopper in them to carry in my pocket (pictured below, left).

2.5ml amber bottles (above left), with standard 30ml amber bottle (above right).

If animals or humans are particularly sensitive, then putting a bottle in their bedding or in the room where they frequent may be enough. If you want to give flower essences to wild animals, then you can place drops in the area they may walk through or use meditation to send the healing energy of the flowers to the animal.

Again, your intent is most important when using any of my blends or flower essences. Be clear about what you are asking or wanting from the flower essences. I remember working with a human client who had recognised a physical patterning on her husband’s side of the family. When we discussed the use of Boab, she wanted to know how to administer it to the whole family when visiting the dying family member in hospital. Through listening to the Boab, it was clear that by carrying a bottle with her into the hospital room - and being very clear on what she was asking the Boab to do - its energy could do its work without having to be physically administered to each individual.

Given that animals are not concerned about what is written in a book, it is important to treat the animal on an individual basis. What works for one animal in your family may not work for another. There are times when an animal may be so sensitive that they may want their ‘own’ bottle of a blend or flower essences, even though they may be using the same blend as another animal or human in their family.

Through all my years of working with animals, and using flower essences, I have found that it is incredibly important to listen to the needs of the animal. When wondering about the dose to give to your animal, be guided by them.  As best as you can, trust your own intuition/knowing.  If you give a dose in the morning, and find yourself again thinking about the blend several times during the day, then your animal is telling you that they need a dose at those times. I often find that when an animal first starts to use a new blend they will want more doses to begin with, and may then taper off. They may stop for a period of time, and then you may start to think about that blend again. This is your animal indicating that they want to start using it again.

I have heard from a number of people that the flower essences ‘no longer work’ for them. I can’t emphasise enough how important it is to communicate your intent to the flowers. Equally important is the way you prepare and administer your own essences. or use my blends.  You need to be fully present for your animals and the essences, which requires that you are fully present for yourself. If you are talking on the phone, watching TV or have the computer running when preparing your blends, or when giving them to your animal, then you are not present and your intent is not clear. What you do alongside administering the flower essences is also an important factor. I often work with humans who need to alter and change things in their lives that have been impacting not only on themselves, but their animals. If you don’t change, then you can’t expect the flower essences to work if you aren’t doing your part! The more I have taken the time to listen to and trust the flower essences, the more powerful they have become. The blends that I have made - guided by my inner knowing, the animals, and the flower essences - are powerful blends that are getting amazing results.

The scope of how we use flower essences is really only limited by our ability to trust in ourselves, which in turn gives us a greater capacity to listen to our animals and the flowers. As the flower essences continue to evolve and change, it is important that we give them the respect that they are worthy of, and take the time to listen to and learn from them. By being more present, we have access to more of ourselves. Which means we have more of ourselves available to listen and receive the messages; not only from the flowers, but from our animals. There’s endless wisdom available if we’re prepared to take the time to be available to receive it!
